A Cocktail History!
The origins of cocktails are shrouded in a fascinating blend of history and legend. While there’s no definitive pinpoint for their birth, the term “cocktail” is believed to have emerged in the early 19th century in the United States. Some theories suggest that it was a nod to the practice of placing a rooster’s tail feather in drinks to identify them, while others attribute it to the French word “coquetier,” a type of eggcup used for serving mixed drinks. Early cocktails were often simple combinations of spirits, sugar, water, and bitters, such as the classic Sazerac or the Old Fashioned. Over time, these concoctions evolved into a diverse and creative world of mixology, with bartenders continually experimenting with new ingredients and techniques, leading to the rich tapestry of cocktails we enjoy today.
